  1. Data Warehousing: The Role It Serves

  2. Is warehousing data important? Common responses to this question will be evoked on a visceral level. Many times the immediate response is along the lines of there is no reason to store huge amount of data which may not be used. Within this assessment is a major misconception i.e the assumption that the data is unnecessary. This could prove to be a seriously flawed concept. All data is unnecessary until the time comes when it needs to be retrieved. Can your business effectively retrieve the needed data? Under certain situations, it will have to or else a great many serious problems could result.

  3. Generally, businesses are always dealing with data. Their decisions have to based on solid understanding of their data. If the data that you are storing tells you that the business is achieving a high level of profits from month to month, then you can consider that your strategy and business plans are working. Of course, profit numbers are only a slim amount of the data a business can store. The truth here is that a massive amount of data will be compiled by a business depending on its operational duties. This leads to the need for effectively storing such data so that it can be retrieved when needed. Also Read:- microsoft cloud database

  4. The solution to this exists in creating the data warehouse and the acquisition of data systems designed to serve the purpose of warehousing. In fact, such systems have the potential to deliver a lot of benefits to a company. Some of these benefits might often be overlooked which is unfortunate when you consider the value they deliver. For example, data can be compiled and stored in a consistence manner. This means all information can be analyzed and reported upon by persons working in different functions and different levels. And the most important point is that everyone gets “one version of truth”.

  5. What if there are errors in the data and information that has been stored? While not a perfect system for locating errors and inconsistencies, data warehousing does bring with it the potential to reduce such problems quite a bit. The absence of such problems reduces the potential for outdated or incomplete data from being retrieved and causing confusion. No matter how expansive a particular warehouse system may be, it cannot work alone and completely independent of other items. In particular, such a system can work in concert with organizatios’s CRM & ERP systems, enterprise support system application tools, and various business process applications. The potential to combine data from so many different sources and presenting an integrated view is huge benefit of Data Warehouse. Anything that can effectively streamline a business's operations will invariably save time and money which can be a great boon. Also Read:- data warehousing and data mining

  6. It is unfortunate that so many are unaware of the value and benefits that data warehousing brings. A great many businesses are undertaking much harder operational processes due to not having such systems installed. In today's competitive and volatile business environment, such oversights are not helpful in any way.
