  1. Benefits of using specialized toys for children with special needs

  2. About Us: • Welcome to Adaptive Tech Solutions! • As you browse our website, you'll notice we're all about fun, learning, exploration, independence, competitive prices and taking awesome care of our customers!  • Adaptive Tech Solutions is a therapist owned and operated company and we strive to provide adapted equipment for individuals with disabilities at affordable prices. Our owner, Denise, has been a Speech-Language Pathologist and Assistive Technology Professional for over 30 years. She still actively works with folks with disabilities in her private practice and is happy to assist customers with product selection and in finding solutions to special situations. She also hand picks all the products we carry in our store and has the expertise to correctly advise how to use adaptive products.

  3. Adaptive Tech Solutions • Unlike some of our competitors, with our switch adaptation service, nearly all our products are adapted to be used both with or without a switch. This means you get more for your money since the toys can be used with individuals with disabilities, and able-bodied individuals, too. These products are perfect for classroom, daycare, and other settings where disabled and non-disabled peers play together.  • We have several other people who help keep our company running, including a retired Air Force veteran who adapts our devices and the stay-at-home mom of a child with disabilities who is the smiling voice who answers our phones. Everything we do is to enrich the lives of people with disabilities by creating affordable independence and learning through adapted toys, switches, and specialty devices. It is simply our passion. At our Sand Springs, OK facility we adapt nearly all our products by hand when you place your order. We believe in 'going green', which is why we frequently recycle our shipping boxes. Although the box might be worthy of our "ugly sticker", the goodies inside are carefully packed just for you. And our products come with our 30-day happiness guarantee.

  4. Cause-Effect: • Toys listed in the Cause Effect Category are selected because they best facilitate the teaching of basic cause-effect. Cause-Effect is an early language concept where and individuals learns that if they do something, there will be a direct result. Such as, if I press a button, a toy will play. • When I stop pressing the button, the toy will stop. Toys that continue to play after a switch is released are not suited for teaching this concept, but are engaging and fun once an individual understands Cause-Effect concept. Cause-Effect is a precursor to language development. Cause-Effect language is important because it allows a person to effectively communicate causative relationships between events.

  5. Disability-Related Resources I would have to say that the resource to try first would be 211. From any phone simply dial 211. This connects you with a person who is trained in finding resources for a variety of needs. We're talking everything from elder abuse, free medical treatment, to housing issues. This includes many resources for individuals with disabilities and their caregivers/families. Many of the families I work with find themselves worn out (check out our call button for some added relief) and financially strapped. So, it's not uncommon to be in search of respite care, information on your rights and disability law, or help with utility bills.

  6. Centers for Independent Living (CIL) These non-profit centers exist in every state. At least 50% of their staff must have a disability- which is an advantage because they tend relate a bit better to disability related issues. Each center offers different services- everything from counseling and free advocacy to adaptive equipment loans. Most centers have counselors who are familiar with local resources.

  7. Switch Adapted Toys Our switch adapted toys are adapted to allow individuals with physical disabilities the opportunity to play and learn as independently as possible. With the use of a switch, a person with disabilities can be an active participant in fun, meaningful accessible activities. Our adapted toys and switches are interchangeable and compatible with most toys and switches sold by other companies. Our goal is to provide affordable switch adapted toys  that teach social skills, cause & effect, language, and sensory awareness through playing and interacting with the environment.
