The Commencement Of Gateway Container Operations At The Vizhinjam Port: The Kerala Port Minister V.N. Vasavan has recently mentioned that the gateway container operations at the Vizhinjam International Port will begin within the next four months. The arrangement to set up the container scanners is currently in progress at the port. At present, only transmissions are carried out at the port. The ships have so far handled 4,22,846 TEU of cargo. Handling 78,833 TEUs from 40 vessels has made using a port one of the top ports in the country. The port has also got environmental clearance from the Union Environment Ministry for the next two phases of the transhipment harbour’s construction. The Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan mentioned that the clearance would ensure that the port becomes fully completed by 2028.
