  1. 9 Signs Your AC Needs Repair If you live in an arid climate such as Arizona, Utah, or California, surviving the summer without air conditioning is next to impossible. That said, air conditioning is expensive. Your electricity bill could jump from just a few dollars to hundreds of dollars if your AC unit is running all day! If you want to save on electricity costs and keep cool this summer, you’ll want to make sure that your AC unit is functioning properly. Below are ten signs to look out for that indicate your AC needs repair. 1. Your Home has Poor Indoor Air Quality If your AC unit is running all the time and you’re still hot and sweaty, check to see if the air inside the house is clean. If it isn’t, there may be contaminants in the air ducts, which could lead to health issues later on. In addition, a dirty filter can cause your AC unit to run for longer periods of time than necessary. In any of these scenarios, be sure to call a professional HVAC company to repair your AC. 2. Your AC is Only Cooling Only One Room If only one room feels cold on your thermostat, there may be an issue with that room’s AC unit. For example, it could have a problem with its fan or compressor. If you've noticed your AC is only cooling one room, hire an HVAC repair company to examine it and ensure that it’s working properly and efficiently. 3. You Hear Strange Noises Coming from Your AC If you hear a loud whirring sound when you turn on your AC unit or see noise coming through the vents, there could be an issue with that particular part of your AC unit. A trained HVAC repair technician must examine it to determine whether that issue can be repaired or if the part needs replacing. 4. Your AC Stops and Starts Constantly If your AC unit is constantly stopping and restarting, there could be issues with the thermostat or the compressor itself. This may have something to do with too little or too much refrigerant in the system. If your AC is constantly stopping and starting, hire a professional repair company to inspect it, determine what’s going on, and figure out how best to proceed.

  2. 5. Foul Smells Are Coming from Your AC If you notice a musty or fishy odor coming from your AC unit, there may be an issue with the air conditioner itself. Heating and AC units often have chemicals inside them that dissipate as heat escapes through the vents. So if your unit is leaking, it could be causing a bad smell to permeate the house. Call a repair company if you notice any of these signs. 6. Your Energy Bills Have Increased If your energy bills have increased recently, there’s a good chance your AC unit is broken. It’s possible that your AC unit isn’t functioning properly, which could be allowing the house to get too hot. If you notice this, you should have a trained repair technician examine the AC unit. 7. Your AC Makes Unusual Noises The last thing you want is to hear strange noises coming from your AC unit. If you hear rattling or squeaking coming from the vents, it could be a sign of problems with your system. A professional HVAC repair company must evaluate such a situation to determine why it might be happening and what can be resolved. 8. Your Home Has Poor Airflow If your AC can’t keep you cool, there could be something wrong with the airflow of your home. HVAC repair companies have equipment that monitors airflow and provides recommendations on how best to resolve an issue. 9. You Can't Sleep If you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night to change your fan speed, there might be a problem with your AC unit. A trained HVAC repair mechanic should to inspect it to figure out what’s happening and fix any issues it might be experiencing.
