Jacquinii • The order Zingerberales is made up of eight plant families, these are: • Musaceae (the bananas) • Strelitziaceae (the birds-of-paradise) • Lowiaceae • Heliconiaceae (the heliconias) • Zingiberaceae (the gingers) • Costaceae (costus) • Cannaceae (the cannas) • Marantaceae (the prayer plants) • Many of the plants in the Zingerberales are very important in landscaping and in the cut-flower industry. Heliconias are grown mainly for their colorful bracts (not their small flowers within the bract)..Several heliconias flower throughout the year. Heliconia blooms may last more than two weeks in floral arrangements.
