Georgia Performance Standards • S1P1. Students will investigate light and sound. • a. Recognize sources of light. • b. Explain how shadows are made. • c. Investigate how vibrations produce sound, • d. Differentiate between various sounds in terms of (pitch) high or low and (volume) loud or soft. • e. Identify emergency sounds and sounds that help us stay safe. • http://www.georgiastandards.org/
Science Processes • Observing • Classifying • Communicating • Predicting
Questions • What is sound? • What do you know about sound? • How is sound made?
Pitch Pitch is how high or low a sound is. Pitch depends on the rate of sound vibrations. The faster the vibration, the higher the sound. The slower the vibration, the lower the sound.
Sounds Outside • Fire engine • Ambulance • Airplane • Helicopter
Sounds Inside • Talking • Dog barking • Door closing • Telephone ringing
Musical Sounds • Drum • Guitar • Piano • Trumpet
