Writing Linear Equations A Presentation of Yow-mazing Proportions!
Different Ways to Write Linear Equations Standard form Point-Slope Form Slope Intercept Form
What does Standard Form look like? 5x-3y=-15 Ax+By=C 3x+2y=6 x+7y=-14 2x+9y=1 4x-3y=24
What does Slope Intercept look like? y=3x-15 y=mx+b y=3x+6 y=2x-4 y=5x-1 y=x+2
What does Point Slopelook like? y-3=2(x-15) y-5=2(x+6) y-9=5(x-1) y-4=3(x-2)
But really…..we only use POINT SLOPE form to write our equations in other ways….
For Example: Write an equation (in slope intercept form) of a line that goes through the points (-3,3) and (1,2).
For Example: Write an equation (in slope intercept form) of a line that has a slope of 3 and a y-intercept of -4.
For Example: Write an equation (in slope intercept form) of a line that goes through the points (-3,3) and (1,2).
For Example: Write an equation (in slope intercept form) of a line that goes through the points (-4,-7) and (-2,-3).
For Example: Write an equation (in slope intercept form) of a line that goes through the points (2,3) and (4,5).
For Example: Write an equation (in slope intercept form) of a line that has a slope of -5 and y-intercept of 2.
In closing….. What is the procedure for writing the equation of a line if you are given two points?
