  1. Hospital Pharma Disinfectants Disinfectants are antimicrobial agents, which destroy or prevent the growth of micro-organism Disinfection defines as:- Cleaning an article of some or all of the pathogenic organisms which may cause infection:- These are two types:- • Disinfectant. • Antiseptic.

Disinfectant. • Disinfectants are antimicrobial agents, which are Applied to NON Living Objects, to destroy or prevent the growth of micro-organisms. • Antibiotics are antimicrobial agents, which are in Taken within the body, to destroy or prevent the growth of micro-organisms inside the body and on the surface of the body. Note:-Antibiotic & Antiseptics is completely different.

  3. Different Types of Disinfectants:- • Surface Disinfectants • Environmental Disinfectants • Instrument Disinfectants • Surface Disinfectants:- Surface disinfectants are generally applied on the surface • Floors to disinfect the surface. • Operation theatre table.

  4. Environmental Disinfectants • The traditional method for Environmental Disinfection of Operation Theatre is Know as fuming method (Fumigation). • In this, Formaldehyde is used along with KMnO4 (Potassium per manganate). • It is time consuming & causes irritation to eyes & skin.

  5. Instrument Disinfectants These are used to disinfect non-disposable instruments which comes in touch with body. • Endoscope instruments • Laparoscope instruments • Dental tools and instruments • Operation theatre tools and instruments

Alcoholic Rub-in Hand Disinfectant:- • Liquid hand disinfectant with broad-spectrum Bactericidal, Fungicidal. • Effective against Bacteria including Mycobacterium Tuberculosis, Fungi, Viruses, including HIV. • Germ count on the hand remains low for several hours. • Eliminates need for frequent hand washing. • Provides optimally sustained activity without requiring a soap scrub beforehand
