PARKLANE AND SUTHERLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS • Only separate primary and intermediate schools in LUSD • Heritage and Needham Elementary Schools converted to K-6 schools 2 years ago • Significant increase in student achievement • Families together at one school for Grades K-6 • Consistency of expectations and procedures for students • Establishment of long-term relationships

  3. SINGLE ATTENDANCE AREA MODEL • Families in the current Parklane/Sutherland Attendance Area would submit a preference form for attendance at one of the schools beginning in the 2014-15 school year. • Each school will present a unique vision for their learning community.

  4. PARENT FORUMS • Parent forums were held on September 18 and 19, 2013. • Eighteen (18) parents attended the forum held at Parklane and six (6) parents attended the forum held at Sutherland. • Parents had questions about start and dismissal times, curriculum, and when they would be notified of the decision. • All in attendance were supportive of the conversion moving forward.

Parklane Elementary SchoolVision and Goals • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Focus • Organizational, study, and leadership skills will be emphasized to promote success. • Build a foundation for success in middle, high school and college. • Utilize technology assisted curriculum

  6. SutherlandElementary School Vision and Goals • Focus on AVID to develop strong organizational skills creating a community of learners. • Technology will be used as a vital tool in teaching and learning. • Develop students’ full potential, develop an enquiring mind and a desire for knowledge, and strive for success in school beyond high school.

  7. START-UP FUNDS Because both schools wish to pursue an emphasis supported by technology, it is recommended a start-up allocation be approved in the amount of $25,000 for each school. In addition, the sites will be exploring Dart Foundation and Got Kids grants.
