  1. Decision Support May 2011

  2. DSS components • Hydrobase • GIS data • TStool/CDSS tool box • StateCU • StatePP • Modflow.

  3. HydroBase GIS Data (Spatial Data) CDSS Tool Box & StateDGI TSTool & StateDMI StateCU MODFLOW

  4. Decision Support Process

  5. Refinements • New Data • Aerial imagery • Pumping information • Cropping information • Geological information • Water User information • Commitment to continue to refine the model • Phase 4, phase 5, phase 6

  6. Imagery • Original data • 1998 satellite imagery (3) • New data • 1998 imagery (~27) • 2002 • 2005 • More images at better resolution • Used to refine GIS layers

  7. Illustrative Example Illustrative example only. Not from RGDSS modeling effort.

  8. Well/Meter Records • Incorporated 2009 pumping data • Reviewed well meter data and other information to assure that pumping from all non-exempt wells within the model domain are included in the model. • Refinements to structure lists and multi-structure groupings • Enhanced methodology to estimate historic pumping that takes into account subirrigaton and regional irrigation practices obtained through interviews with water users and water commissioners • Refinements to municipal and industrial well pumping estimates

  9. Cropping • Conducted a series of water user and water commissioner interviews to enhance ditch service area representation, well to parcel assignments and local irrigation practices. • 1998 Irrigated Lands Assessment completed under the same standards utilized from the 2002 and 2005 Irrigated Lands Assessments • Additional investigation of the extent of meadow/grass pasture actually irrigated • Added new crop types: cover crops and new alfalfa • Revisited some crop characteristics, such as planting date and freeze dates, based on water user interviews and recommendations based on Agro Engineering’s experience. • Refine subirrigation curves based on additional research

  10. Geology/Hydrogeology • investigated the locations of high groundwater tables during irrigation season based on the RGWCD’s water level measurement database • review all existing well log records for the Conejos/Rio San Antonio area and update the geological parameters of the model based on that review by HRS Water Consultants, Inc.

  11. User Information • User experience • In meetings • On the ground • Updated some canal conveyance efficiencies based on revised canal coverage and interviews with water users and water commissioners • Farm operations

  12. General • “study period” extended through 2009 • refined climate station weights based on local climate information • refinements to diversion records for structures carrying or receiving water to or from other structures • update stream inflow and recharge areas with current data • refinements to stream and drain packages based on GPS data location and additional mapping
