  2. By the end of the period, students will be able to… • define bullying. • identify the difference between a put-down and a positive interaction. • know how positive interactions extinguish bullying and negativity.

  3. Agenda • Do Now • What is bullying? • Pair and share • Story • Flame of Negativity

  4. DO Now • Take out a piece of paper and a pen/pencil. Take a few minutes to write down what you think bullying is.

  5. Pair and Share • Get with a neighbor take a few minutes to share your definition of bullying. How is your definition different from the one we gave you?

  6. Story • Listen carefully to this story. Whenever you hear a put-down in the story, give us a “thumbs down” signal. Every time this happens we will tear off a piece of the heart.

  7. Questions • How do you think Pedro is feeling? Why? • What might be the effect be on him by being treated this way day after day? • What are some of the reasons people might engage in these put downs? What do they get from it?

  8. Questions • What are some ways that people in Pedro’s life might have treated him differently? • What if you were one of Pedro’s classmates? What would you do if you saw someone being mean to him? • What if you were Pedro? How would you respond?

  9. Flame of Negativity • How does negative behavior affect the flame? • How does positive behavior affect the flame?
