  1. Multiple Choice Show Down Can you outscore this guy??

  2. The Gist • At this point, it’s more important to understand how to better attack the MC section than it is to get the questions correct • Though you will have a chance to improve your score, today is about learning strategy

  3. How It Works: • Identify a question you’d like to discuss as a class • Grapple with the answers—do a class POE, find textual evidence, look up vocabulary, etc. If you think you have the right answer, explain your thinking and how you tackled the question. • If you change your answer, you must provide a specific rationale as to WHY, including evidence: • D because hyperbole is found in line 15, but alliteration (I just learned that this meant “the repetition of consonant sounds”) isn’t. I confused alliteration with assonance. • You may only discuss as a whole class/group. The faster you discuss, the more questions you get to tackle. • Do not dominate the discussion, even if you think you are the bee’s knees and have 100% of the answers right. Call on your quiet peer—I bet they have some good insight too, but are hesitant to talk over you.  • You have all but the last ten minutes of class for your Show Down.

  4. Before I give you the correct answers-- Write 2-3 sentences at the bottom of your answer sheet: What did you learn, strategy-wise from today’s conversation? What tool made sense to you? What “ah-HA!” moment did you have? What will you do on your next MC practice?

  6. Exam Corrections • Tally up the question types to see which category you struggle with most • Focus your exam corrections on questions only in this category type This is the most important part of the analysis…don’t skimp here. Your grade depends on it!!
