Online Testing Information Districts will receive materials to test all students via paper/pencil, but have the option to test online Students with accommodations will test paper/pencil Materials can be returned to DRC unused For students who test a combination of online and paper/pencil, a match will be attempted to create one record. Online demographic information overrides paper/pencil. January precode data for all students will be loaded into Test Setup Adding an ELDA online testing indicator to precode for 2013-2014 is under consideration Tests will be set up under content area “ELA” as modules; one per subject (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking)

Pause Functionality Allows TAs to re-enter a test multiple times without the need to reset the student’s test ticket (Pause, then exit) Allows students who complete different parts of the tests on different days to log in and resume the next part of the test without the need to reset the test ticket (Pause, then exit) Allows students who need to leave the computer lab/classroom for a short break (e.g., restroom break, office visit, fire drill, etc.) to continue their test (Pause, then Resume) If a student submits a test by mistake, contact the SCDE and SC Project Team for approval to have the student’s test reset

Precode All student records from the January precode update file will be loaded into eDIRECT as online testers Automatically assigned to a test session It is not necessary to update demographic information in eDIRECT; updates from the March precode file will be applied after testing is completed One Test Session per grade cluster (K, 1–2, 3–5, 6–8, 9–12) will be created for each school For ELDA, a generic teacher name “Sample Teacher” will be assigned to each test session Districts and schools will have the opportunity to modify the teacher name, as appropriate, or add a new teacher All ELA teacher names from the precode file will be loaded into eDIRECT

Preparing for Listening Test Prior to testing: Use of LCS is required for Listening test Ensure the audio works by completing a System Readiness Check on each student workstation: Start – Programs – SC Online Assessments – System Readiness Check Select the checkboxes next to Sound Card and Audio File Playback and then Execute Tests Ensure headphones are available for each student Adjust the volume on each machine so that it is at a comfortable level for students During testing: When a student logs on, the student should see these audio buttons on the “Welcome Student” screen A text-to-speech (synthesized) voice will be heard for directions; a human voice will be heard for the test items If a student needs to adjust the volume during testing they should click the ‘Options’ button on the test screen and select ‘Audio Settings’

Test Setup Access via eDIRECT February 6 Provide necessary permissions to STCs and TAs Ensure all students who are online testing are in a Test Session Used for the following functions: Manage Test Sessions Print Test Ticket Rosters Print Student Test Tickets One Test Ticket for each student to access all subjects Monitor Testing

Test Setup – Tickets & Rosters Student Test Tickets with login information are generated automatically; contains all information needed to begin test STC or Test Administrator prints tickets and rosters Test Administrators verify that each student has their correct ticket (one ticket needed per student to access all subjects) Student Test Tickets are secure; they must be distributed, collected and accounted for, and securely destroyed following testing
  20. Test Setup – Tickets & Rosters Rosters and Test Tickets can be printed beginning February 6. One Test Ticket will be used for all subjects for each student.
