  3. Who We Are 4 2 3 5 1 Who We Are The Food Recovery Project was started as a community service project by members of the Minuteman Parent Association (MPA). Efforts have expanded to include support from additional non-profit organizations. Organizations supporting the Food Project efforts include: Minuteman Parent Association Inc. • The parent organization of Minuteman High School, a regional public technical high school, located in Lexington, MA , whose students come from over 40 communities in eastern Massachusetts. • The MPA is a 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax deductible Sustainable Arlington, a chapter of the Massachusetts Climate Action Network (MCAN) • Sustainable Arlington (SA) is a Vision 2020 Environment Task Group Committee of the Town of Arlington. • MCAN is a 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax deductible.

What We Do 4 1 3 5 2 What We Do Project Mission The Minuteman Parent Association, along with Sustainable Arlington, seeks to support those in need of food by diverting end-of-day food from local bakeries, cafes and grocers and redistributing such food to non-profit organizations serving low income individuals and families in need, including students, the elderly and the physically challenged within local communities. In the 12-month period ended June 30, 2013, 9,000+ boxes (value estimate of $500,000+)of bread, produce and other perishables were distributed through the Food Recovery Project to local non-profit organizations.

How It Works 4 1 2 5 3 How It Works 1 Each day a volunteer from the MPA or SA collects end-of-day baked goods, produce and other perishables from our partnering Panera Bread, Trader Joe’s or Starbucks locations. 1 4 2 If needed, food items are sorted and bagged for redistribution. 2 Delivery to non-profit organizations takes place the same day or the following morning. 3 3 Non-profit organizations distribute the food items to those in need or utilizes food items for the programs, meetings or events. 4

How To Get Involved 4 1 2 3 5 How To Get Involved Collections by Location • Volunteers and Assistance Needed • The Minuteman Parent Association and Sustainable Arlington are always looking for volunteers to participate with various opportunities or willing to assist you organize a similar program in your community. • Volunteer Opportunities: • Collecting and Distributing • Collect end-of-day food from partnering bakeries, cafes and grocers (Panera & Starbucks at night; Trader Joe’s at 7AM) • Sort and, if needed, package food for redistribution • Deliver food to non-profit organizations • Administration • Assist with administrative tasks • Develop and maintain web site • Soliciting donations for supplies from stores and businesses including, but not limited to: • Food service gloves • Food grade plastic produce or baguette bag (baguette size, • produce size plus larger & smaller) • Wax paper sheets (small and large size) Distributions by Location
