  3. Buyer/Purchasing Agent • Buyers purchase goods or services mostly for resale. • Buyers attempt to get the best prices. • Negotiate cost and Payment terms. • Purchasing is done electronically.

  4. Education • Education varies depending on the companies size. • A two year degree or equivalent experience required. • Purchasing Manager requires Bachelors Degree

  5. Skill Requirements • In addition to education you need to posses additional skills such as good analytical skills. • Negotiation Skills • Mathematical skills • Knowledge of supply-chain management

  6. Advancement • Purchasing Manager or Director after 5 yrs. • Continuing Education is essential for advancement. • You can take additional college courses in supply management. • Complete certification from (CPSM) Certified Professional in Supply Management.

  7. Salary • Salaries varies in purchasing as in every other industry. • 2009 median salary of a buyer was $53,940 • The middle 50 percent earned between $41,670 and $70,910. • The median salary for a purchasing manager was $89,160.
