CAUSAS ECONOMICAS • - La ambición por explotar el salitre como fertilizante, por parte de Chile • - El impuesto de 10 centavos por quintal de salitre decretado por el gobierno boliviano. • - La protección del gobierno chileno a las empresas chilenas y británicas que explotaban el salitre en territorio boliviano.

  3. CAUSAS SOCIALES • - La necesidad de paliar el descontento interno en Chile, generando un conflicto externo.

  4. CAUSAS POLITICAS • - La anexión de nuevos territorios • - La expansión territorial al norte, por los chilenos. • - La alianza defensiva de Perú y Bolivia ante toda agresión externa.

  5. CAUSAS MILITARES • - La ambición de los militares chilenos por gloria y poder. • - La necesidad de probar los armamentos modernos adquiridos por el gobierno chileno

  6. OTRAS CAUSAS • - La rivalidad de chilenos, peruanos y bolivianos. • - El temor de los chilenos por el tratado defensivo entre Perú y Bolivia.
