  18. OnStar Stolen Vehicle Services

  19. OnStar Stolen Vehicle Location Assistance OnStar has worked with Law Enforcement in efforts to locate some 35,000 stolen vehicles Personal Privacy is extremely important to OnStar. A stolen vehicle must have a Stolen Vehicle Report

  20. OnStar Stolen Vehicle Location Assistance • OnStar provides stolen vehicle location only to Law Enforcement • OnStar has no service to provide an owner with vehicle location • If an owner calls OnStar first, we will connect with Law Enforcement • Stolen Vehicle Report will be made • OnStar will simultaneously work to locate the vehicle. This was an important ‘process change’

  21. New For 2009 OnStar Stolen Vehicle Slowdown * NHTSA Traffic Statistics data MY 2006

  22. OnStar Stolen Vehicle Slowdown • Designed to help reduce high speed pursuit of stolen vehicles • Subscribers are the control point • Subscribers are able to ‘opt-out’ of the service • Vehicle must be reported stolen by the subscriber and a police report created • OnStar will only provide location to Law Enforcement and will not activate Stolen Vehicle Slowdown until Law Enforcement requests

  23. OnStar Stolen Vehicle Slowdown Process • 1. Subscriber contacts OnStar • 2. Reports stolen vehicle, OnStar asks: • “Have you reported the theft to Law Enforcement?” • If yes, OnStar gets information and contacts Law Enforcement • If no, OnStar uses database to contact appropriate Law Enforcement • 1. Subscriber contacts Law Enforcement • 2. Reports vehicle stolen, Law Enforcement ask: • “Does your vehicle have OnStar or any other device?” • If OnStar, call 1-888-4-OnStar • If other, respond accordingly

  24. OnStar Stolen Vehicle Slowdown Process 3. OnStar immediately begins searching for vehicle and advises whether Stolen Vehicle Slowdown is available 4. Law Enforcement verifies the vehicle will be treated as stolen 5. OnStar locates the vehicle and provides location to Law Enforcement. 6. LE advises when visual contact is made, confirms correct vehicle through OnStar flashing the hazard lights, confirms conditions are safe, and then requests Vehicle Slowdown 7. OnStar deploys Stolen Vehicle Slowdown

  25. OnStar Stolen Vehicle Slowdown Process • Powertrain Controller slows the vehicle • Once triggered, accelerator pedal inputs are ignored • Vehicle will coast to idle speed • Vehicle functions like power steering and brakes remain intact but, OnStar buttons and internal flashers are disabled 8. After event conclusion, vehicle must be reset for normal operation
