Tip 1 • Be Aware! • Read the Daily Bulletin http://www.ssw.umaryland.edu/bulletin/index.html It has important updates and notifications about all sorts of school opportunities! • Look at Bulletin Boards on the second floor hallway—especially the SSW Student Government Association (SGA) board • Attend SGA meetings/read the notes

Tip 2 • Use your resources! • The Office of Student Affairs (SSW, Room 2W14) • studentaffairs@ssw.umaryland.edu • The Computer Lab (on the 4th floor of the SSW) • The Writing Center (on the 3rd floor of the SMC Campus Center) • Library Resources: Gail Betz, MLIS • gbetz@hshl.umaryland.edu • UMB Student Counseling Center • HS/HSL Library – Suite 440 • (410) 328- 8404

  4. Tip 3 • Be a people person! • Ask questions in class and develop good rapport • Utilize faculty members as a resource • Connect with your fellow students—for now and the future • Be proactive if you have questions…remember, it’s a BIG school!

Tip 4 • Be Active! • Annual Leadership Interest Meeting Sept. 22nd • Attend meetings: University Student Government Association (USGA) and SGA • Join student groups: • AWDE, CAN, CMA, CSWF, ISWO, LASO, LGBTQAU, OASIS, SCOPE • Join SSW Committees: • Admissions, Clinical Concentration, Educational Resources and Informatics, Field Education, Management and Community Organization (MACRO), Master’s Program, Student Grievance, Student Review • Be involved in your community • support local businesses, read posters, smile at people
