Motivation HTTP + HTML = Web Publishing ebXML + UBL = Web Commerce?
CECID’s R&D on UBL • XML Schema Design and Management Guide for HK Govt • B2B Connector (Project Elf) • ebMail • Software Library
XML Schema Design and Management Guide for HK Govt • XML schema modeling methodologyfor developing e-govt applications • Based on ebXML Core Components& UBL approach • Standardized Common Schemas • person’s name, HKID#, address, etc. • Central Data Registry • www.xml.gov.hk • Already applied in real cases • Center for Health Protection • Dangerous goods declaration • Weather info publishing • Publicly available at: http://www.itsd.gov.hk/itsd/english/infra/eif.htm
B2B Connector (Project Elf) • Standalone device for B2B exchange • Plug-and-play, standards-based, Internet-based, low-cost • Support conversion between different e-doc standards • Extensible through plug-in modules • Core technology: ebXML + Universal Business Language (UBL) eBusiness Router
ebMail • eBusiness mailer for small and medium companies • Exchanges business documents on the Internet through ebXML Message Service V2 • Provides user interface for composing documents easily • Supports data import from and export to office applications, e.g. spreadsheet • Extensible through plug-in modules for handling different business processes and documents • Open source through www.freebxml.org • We will develop UBL plug-ins for ebMail
Software Library • To build up and parse UBL document • Necessary tool for application integration • A “by-product” of Project Elf and ebMail plug-ins modules • Build from data model, instead of XSDs • We will develop software on both Java and .NET platforms
Plan • We have allocated resources to develop on Project Elf, UBL plug-ins for ebMail, and software library for UBL • Target to release by Q3, 2004 • Need pilot projects and promotion!
