  1. Department of Computer Science & Engineering(July – Dec 2020) Aravali College of Engineering and Management, Faridabad

  2. Logical, Physicaldesign AndIPO/HIPO charts

  3. Introduction • Starts with the planning of a newsystem • Designing is not a single phase ofSDLC • Design is alwayshappening • You collect info, then Design, collect more info from feedback and Designagain.

  4. Relationship between logical and PhysicalDesign • The logical design defines the functions and features of the system and therelationships among itscomponents • Logical design done during the system analysis phase

  5. The Relationship between Logical and PhysicalDesign • The physical design of an information system is a plan for the actual implementation of thesystem • The physical design is built on the system’s logical design and describes a specificimplementation • System design usually begins after completing system analysis phase • Some overlap is possible, you might return to fact-finding if you discover that you overlooked an important issue, if user have significant new needs, or if legal or governmental requirements change

  6. The systems analyst must understand the logical design of the system before beginning the physical design of any one component

  7. IPO/ HIPOCharts • Developed by IBM • To understand structure and functions ofsystems • To provide easily understandable description of various parts of system

  8. Purpose: • to define procedures and operations in a hierarchical manner, correlating input, processing, and output steps with the integrated whole expressed in the hierarchy diagram.

  9. HIPO • A HIPO package consists of a hierarchy chart and IPO overview diagram and IPO detaildiagram: • Hierarchy Chart • IPO Chart • IPO detailedchart
