Aaron Thomas: Tips to Become a Successful Manager In order to become a successful manager, you do not only need to possess the skills and capability to get the tasks and responsibilities attached to the job description done. There are also a number of qualities that must be able to possess in order to become a successful manager in the company that you are working on. Here are just some tips to help you improve and become a successful manager. Be Willing to Learn One tip to help you become a successful manager is that you must be willing to learn. Although you may possess skills and experience to land you in this position, there is always room for improvement. Invest in leadership seminars, books and DVDs in order to help you improve on those skills that you currently have while being able to work on your weaknesses to turn them into strengths. While these may cost a lot money initially, the things that you would learn through these learning materials would greatly help you become a manager that is able to get the job done above and beyond the expectations of senior management. Relate to People As a manager, much of the tasks and responsibilities you need to accomplish would involve the support and following of those employees directly under you as well as those above you. Always make it a point to show yourself to be someone who is approachable and concerned about the welfare of your subordinates in order to gain their support and following on the decisions that you make. At the same time, make it a point to be open also to members of senior management who

  2. may have suggestions or comments that can help you improve your overall performance as a manager of the company. Add Value to Your Employees Your employees are your most important resource that you can tap into. Sadly, many managers tend to face issues where the quality of the performance of their employees dwindles over time. The reason for this is simple. If employees are not treated properly, they lose their morale and motivation to provide high quality output in doing their tasks and responsibilities. That is why it is important that for you to become a successful manager, to make sure that you take time to ensure that your employees feel valued. Take time to talk with them and listen to some of their concerns. Make sure that when they do a great job, you recognize this and praise them for it. These simple gestures would do wonders to the morale of your employees, causing them to continue to perform exceptionally well in their tasks and responsibilities, and would even be willing to go above and beyond what is expected of them.
