  1. Chief Adviser on the Safety of Children Sir Roger Singleton Safeguarding post-Laming: perspectives from the Government’s Chief Adviser 9 December 2009

  2. Lord Laming was asked to: • Assess what good practice had been achieved in safeguarding children since the Victoria Climbie Inquiry report was published. • Identify the barriers to further progress. • Recommend the specific actions required to overcome those barriers.

  3. Chief Adviser – my role To: • Advise, influence, monitor and challenge Government • Promote better collaborative working between the professionals at all levels • Encourage the development of fresh ideas and new thinking • Enhance public understanding of what safeguarding vulnerable children involves and the complex judgements to which it gives rise • Report – first report to Parliament due April 2010

  4. Laming on LSCBs • Composition of Boards having a positive impact. However, still room for improvement. • Relationship between LSCBs and Children’s Trusts vital to both bodies’ success. • Issues that appear peripheral can not be forgotten.
