  3. Mrs. Heather Dyke • Graduated from NAU in 1996 with a bachelors degree in Physical Education • Earned by Master’s degree in Secondary Curriculum and Instruction in 2000 • Married for 13 years • Two beautiful boys, Shane is 8 and Cody is 5

  8. How can I help my child be successful in AVID Class? • Ask if they have any homework: I will rarely give homework, but when I do, it needs to be turned in on time– late work is only worth half credit

  9. How can I help my child be successful in AVID Class? • Check their grades on Infinite Campus on a regular basis – I make every effort to enter grades promptly and keep their posted grades up to date

  10. How can I help my child be successful in AVID Class? • If you have any questions about your child’s grade, please e-mail at any time • dyke.heather@cusd80.com

  11. How can I help my child be successful in AVID Class? • If they are ever absent from class, remind your child to get their make-up work. They must ask me for it, I will not hand it to them.

  12. How can I help my child be successful in AVID Class? • Remind them to keep a good AVID binder. They have binder checks every week. Binder checks are 30% of their semester grade.

  14. AVID Graduates 97% plan to attend college 66% will enroll in a four-year university 31% will enroll in a two-year college 78% of AVID students are accepted to four-year universities 83% of their parents have less than a four-year degree

  15. Completion of Four-Year College Entrance Requirements 76% of all graduating seniors DO NOT meet university requirements 89% of AVID students meet university requirements! Only 34% of students in the United States complete university requirements

  16. Nationwide Nationwide 76% of students from affluent backgrounds attend college. Only 4% of community college students transfer to a four-year college or university AVID seniors graduate with an average G.P.A. of 3.1
