Legislation • The Law of the Kyrgyz Republic of April 19, 2008, #59 “On Population and Housing Census”; • Decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic “On Conduction of Population and Housing Census in the Kyrgyz Republic in 2009”, December 29, 2005, UP# 661; • Decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic “On the National Commission of the Kyrgyz Republic on Population”; • Resolution of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic of May 31, 2006, #396 «On Preparation and Conduction of Population and Housing Census in the Kyrgyz Republic in 2009”; • Resolution of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic of May 26, 2007, #195“On Approval of the 2009 Population and Housing Census Questionnaire”.

  3. Census Questionnaire The following were taken into account in identifying the questions of the 2009 Population and Housing Census programme : • country needs priority • international comparability • readiness and capability of the population to provide proper information to the questions • census programme consists of the following basic characteristics: education; economic characteristics; demographic characteristics of households and families and housing characteristics

  4. Registration of residential and nonresidential premises • Registration was carried out in March 2008 • At present preliminary results on setting up the lists of residential and nonresidential premises where people may live were obtained • 2178 field workers were involved in making lists

  5. Census Budget The Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic has allocated 3842,9 thousand USD (Thousand USD)

  6. Assistance of international donors • GTZ – 100.000 EUR were allocated for purchase of vehicles and design of software for census data entry, control and processing; • UNFPA – 134.000 USD were allocated for training and printing of census documentation; • Islamic Band of Development (IDB) – it is under consideration to allocate 300.000 USD for purchase of computers, publication of census results and census staff capacity building.

  7. Plans to the end of 2008 • census zoning in June-August 2008 • printing and delivery of all census documentation to regional statistical offices • purchase and distribution of portfolios and stationery among regional statistical offices.
