  1. Innovative Technology Podcasting

  2. What is Podcasting? • It is a series of digital media files which are distributed over the internet for playback on portable media devices and computers • The files can be audio or visual • The word ‘podcast’ came from combining the two words “iPod” and “broadcast”

  3. Podcast vs. Television3 Basic Differences • Show length • Podcasts are shorter and are recommended to be under 8 minutes • Broadcast size • Podcasts work better with close up and larger images • Content • People are looking for deeper content, not entertainment that can be found on TV

  4. Examples in the Classroom • Electrical Trades – uses as notes that can be viewed by students while working in the shop http://www.gavc-il.org/vnews/display.v/ART/2008/01/19/4722be28400de • Mathematics – diversifies instruction students getting information from different source than the teacher http://www.podcast.net/show/30499

  5. Benefits • Students are comfortable with iPod technology so it’s easy to use • Students are more likely to look back and listen to a podcast for information than reread their notes • Allows students to work and listen to content at the same time – multitask • Easy to find on the internet or even create yourself
