  2. Monday, March 11, 2013 • 1. Quiet Question: Type Two Prompt---Ms. Barben is going to read aloud “The HistoryMakers-Siddhartha Gautama the Enlightened One.” As she does, you should be doing Active Reading/Talking to the Text. After reading the article, you will now answer the following three questions. You should be using your notes on the Religions of India to help you answer the questions. • a)Explain what Buddha means by the quote at the top of the reading. Provide a MINIMUM OF THREE DIFFERENT supportive points, beliefs, practices of Buddhism from the reading and your notes that supports the quote. •  b)Do you agree with Buddha’s ideas that all life is suffering? Why or why not? Explain with a MINIMUM OF TWO DIFFERENT examples from history, current events, and/or your life that support your answer. • c)How did Buddha’s message about the caste system and other beliefs undermine Hindu society? Provide a MINIMUM OF TWO DIFFERENT examples and explain them.

Then together do the following Type One Prompt: Look over your notes on the four religions of India. Which of the religions believe in the equality of all human beings and practice non-violence and tolerance? Which religions do not? How will these differing views affect the history of India?

Individual: You will read the following pages/sections in the textbook and take additional notes in the provided graphic organizer. • Pages 70-71 “Social Class in Ancient India” • Page 1019 “Under New India---Begins with After Nehru’s Death…”

You need this to keep pace with the lesson for tomorrow. • Chunking: • Monday:Read and take notes on pages 1-3 • Tuesday: Read and take notes on pages 4-7

  6. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 • 6. Class: Ms. Barben is going to do her Caste System Powerpoint, and you shouldtake additional notes in the provided graphic organizer. • 7. Homework: Finish reading the supplemental reading and taking notes in the provided graphic organizer. Study for test on Friday.
