  1. How to Become a Certified General Contractor in Florida Every year, a large number of candidates invest their time in Florida general contractor exam preparationto secure their government seat. This is because in this state individual’s qualifications and experience are needed for getting a license instead of the corporation. In this article, we will discuss the important things required to become a certified general contractor in Florida. Here are some important factors to consider when you’re planning the Florida Building Contractor Exam Preparation or Licensing Exam Preparation: 1. Experience and Education For Florida general contractor exam prep candidates, it is essential to pass the examination in a corresponding category. Florida Administrative Code (Chapter 61G4-16) includes provisions opted by the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) related to the complete examination contents, procedures for people with disabilities, and some security protocols. You need to go through that before starting the preparations. Any candidate who is preparing for being a certified general contractor in Florida must obtain the right knowledge, ability, experience, and skill in the given area: l Masonry walls l Slabs or foundations of more than 20,000-square-feet l Steel erection l Column erection l Elevated slabs l Precast concrete structures l Framing structural reinforced concrete Following are the important experience/education options for individuals studying for Florida General Contractor License or Florida Plumbing License Exam Prep: Option #1: A candidate has completed a four-year bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, or building construction. They also are required to have one-year construction experience in a specific category for which they need a license.

  2. Option #2: A candidate with four years of work experience as a foreman or in the trade industry. The minimum of one year of experience as a foreman is important. Option #3: A candidate with both education and experience is also eligible. In this case, all junior college or community level studies are considered, along with the minimum work experience in the industry. 2. Financial Responsibility and Stability For becoming a certified general contractor, a candidate must have to fulfill the financial responsibility criteria under the Rule 61G4-15.006, F.A.C. The applicant has to provide a consumer credit report to the department without disclosing any unpaid judgments or liens. These credit reports must be of all businesses that the applicant wants to qualify. 3. Good Moral Character/Criminal Background As per the Section 489.111(3) (a) in Florida, each candidate intending to be a certified general contractor must bear a good moral character. In case, the CILB denies that a candidate is lacking a good moral character, it must be a furnished statement with the Board’s findings. Moreover, the CILB has to offer a complete record to prove the denial. Even a notice of applicant’s appellate rights and rehearing must be provided. All the candidates are asked to submit their fingerprints so that the authorities can complete their criminal background check. 4. Insurance An applicant must provide the affidavit of having the following insurance coverage: l Property damage insurance l Public liability insurance l Workers’ compensation insurance The required affidavit can be found within the approved application packages at the department.
