  2. The 'Russell Group' is the term given to the collection of the most prestigious universities in the UK.

  3. It is the British equivalent to the American Ivy League of top- performing higher education institutions.

  5. The Russell Group was founded in 1994 and takes its name from the location of its early meetings – the Russell Hotel in Russell Square, London.

  6. In 2007, the group registered as a professional, incorporated organisation.
