  1. KNOW ABOUT PARTS OF DRILLING MUD PUMP Mud pumps are critical assets in the oilfield as they circulate the drilling fluid in an oil well. They are typically designed as a reciprocating piston and plunger pump to keep the mud (or fluid) going under high pressure of up to 7,500 psi through the drill string and then sends it back up through the annulus. The parts of a drilling mud pump will depend on the type of equipment you have. Reputable providers of oilfield assets carry a range of new, used and remanufactured drilling equipment to make sure that you can invest in the right products that will suit your requirements. A drilling mud pump can either be duplex or triplex. Duplex mud pumps make sure that the fluid circulation can go all the way to the bottom of the well from a mud cleaning system. Their most critical parts include safety valves and binocular floating seals, and while they used to be the norm, triplex mud pumps are already being preferred in more applications that require high pumping pressure. With a triplex mud pump, working fluid volume is decreased after being discharged, so pressure can be generated to create the flow. The triplex drilling mud pump is named this due to its three pistons. The middle piston is the one that produces more pressure to the equipment’s crankshaft. So, you need to make sure that you source a high-quality piston that can stand up to daily use and wear and tear. That way, you do not have to worry about crankshaft failure, which can occur with poor-quality components. At the same time, you need to be careful about high piston loads, as these could cause too much pressure on the crankshaft and the parts of the mud pump. Besides triplex and duplex mud pumps, you are likely to come across the Quintuplex drilling mud pump, too, which is preferred when pumping and drilling simultaneously. This way, it operates as a continuous-duty return piston, which can be critical for support to the crankshaft to make sure that the sheaves can function properly. Like other oilfield equipment, quintuplex mud pumps are subject to wear and tear, so you may need to check on their parts from time to time to make sure that they are in good condition and purchase high-quality parts if they need replacement.
