  1. Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment There are a few things you can do at home to help manage your eczema, such as using moisturisers regularly and trying not to scratch. You can also make sure your skin stays hydrated by drinking lots of water. Some people may need to take allergy medication for severe eczema flare-ups. If you have mild eczema, your doctor may recommend over-the-counter ointments or prescription steroid creams. You may also need to use antihistamines at bedtime if you are having severe itching or scratching fits. How to Treat Eczema through Ayurveda? Some people will get a skin infection (called staph) from scratching the affected area too much and this can cause further inflammation and even blisters. Your doctor can prescribe antibiotics for this infection. Your genes: You're more likely to have eczema if you have a family history of eczema or other types of dermatitis. It's also more common if you have allergies, such as to pollen, pet hair or certain foods. Environment: Abrupt temperature and humidity changes can trigger eczema flare- ups, so try to maintain an even temperature in your house and avoid going in and out of air-conditioned buildings on hot days or wearing too many layers when you're cold. Hard physical activity that makes you sweat heavily can also trigger itchiness. Diet: Some people find that eating a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids can help with eczema. These can be found in fish such as salmon and tuna, some nuts (walnuts, pistachios and almonds) and seeds such as sesame, pumpkin and sunflower. You can also increase the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat that are high in vitamin C, such as oranges, kiwis and baked potatoes. Stress and anxiety: Stress can trigger a flare-up of eczema, so it's important to find ways to reduce your stress levels. Other ways to manage stress include meditation, yoga and regular exercise. Ayurvedic treatment of eczema focuses on ensuring that the body's equilibrium is restored. This is achieved through a combination of oral medicines, herbal oils and external treatments such as massages. In the initial stages of ayurvedic treatment for eczema, detoxification procedures are used to clear out any toxins that may have built up in the body. Then, ayurvedic doctors might advise snehana or medicated oil baths to nourish the skin and promote healing. In very severe cases, your GP might recommend corticosteroid tablets to stop itching and swelling and allow the skin underneath to heal. These are usually only prescribed for short periods of 5 to 7 days to bring particularly severe eczema flare- ups under control. They're not normally recommended for long-term use because they can have serious side effects.
