  1. Never Try To Fix These Five Things Yourself!

  2. Overview There’s been a time in everyone’s life, probably, where we have thought that we could fix anything ourselves. Of course, we’d want to think that, because it saves money! We’re handy! It’s people fixing it at the shop, we’re people, it’s the same thing! Right?

  3. WRONG There are some things you can fix yourself on your car (we’ve been talking about cars this whole time! Ha!) but then there are other things that, even if you THINK you can fix them, you should NOT. Here is a list of those things. Take these fixes to your dealer. Please, please do that. You’ll save money – not because of the fix itself, but because if you tried to fix the thing and then messed up, the repair on THAT would be a heck of a lot more expensive than the initial repair. Trust us!!

  4. WRONG Never try to repair anything to do with the transmission. Even replacing the fluid is a pro fix. Of course, you’ll spend money no matter what, but when you trust a pro you’ll get what you pay for in terms of a quality fix that actually works.   5. WRONG Don’t mess with your windshield, either. People sell kits that will “fix” your windshield but please, if a crack or chip is large enough there’s nothing you can do short of replacing the window. Your windshield can have cracks that are invisible to the naked eye, but that are really damaging to the structural integrity of the glass – especially with the force of the wind against it as you drive.

  6. WRONG The sound system is another thing that you should probably hire a pro to mess with. If you want to upgrade your sound system, great! Go ahead! But when you think about all the wires that are involved, and how wires can lead to electrical fires and shorts, well. That’d be enough to make me go to the pros.

  7. WRONG Your fuel pump is also kind of sacrosanct. Because of the precision required for the installation, you should take your vehicle to a professional to have your fuel pump replaced. If you mess up, you can total your car from the inside out. Not something I’d want to be responsible for, honestly.

  8. WRONG Don’t try to do any engine diagnostics, either. Sure, you can buy little machines that will turn off the “maintenance required” or “check engine” lights, but does that actually fix anything? Nope. So, take your vehicle to your dealer, have them actually fix what’s making the light come on, and there you go!
