  1. New York: Mass shooting in Manhattan – four dead The mass shooting that took place in central Manhattan, New York City, on the evening of July 28, 2025, shocked America. Shane Devon Tamura, 27, opened fire after entering a skyscraper at 345 Park Avenue, killing four people and seriously wounding one. Among the dead was NYPD police officer Didarul Islam (36). The suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Details of the shooting incident At around 6:30 p.m. (UTC ) on Monday , Tamura, a Las Vegas resident wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying an AR-15 rifle, entered the lobby of the Akashaharmyum. A security guard there opened fire on Islam, who died of serious injuries. Tamura then went up to the 33rd floor and opened fire indiscriminately, killing three other civilians. The incident sent employees in the building running in panic, with some hiding in their offices. The significance of the building where the shooting took place 345 Park Avenue, a 44-story skyscraper in Manhattan, is home to the NFL headquarters, offices of prominent corporations such as Blackstone, KPMG, and Bank of America. The building, owned by Rudin Management, occupies a block between 51st and 52nd streets. The building went on lockdown at the time of the incident, and teams from the NYPD, FDNY, and FBI responded immediately.

Background of the shooting suspect Shane Tamura, a Nevada native who previously lived in Hawaii, graduated from Granada Hills High School in 2016 and was a football running back who gained 1,346 yards in the 2014-15 season. Some on social media speculated that he had NFL aspirations and was frustrated by their failure to make the cut. However, the NYPD has not confirmed this speculation. Officials' response to the shooting New York Mayor Eric Adams condemned the incident in a statement. “This horrific shooting in Manhattan has shaken our community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims,” he said. NYPD Commissioner Keith Sewell called the incident “another unfortunate example of gun violence in America.” The Gun Violence Archive says there have been 254 mass shootings in the United States so far in 2025 . Shooting investigation, future actions The NYPD and FBI are jointly investigating the shooting. The investigation is ongoing to determine whether Tamura acted alone or was involved in a gang. CCTV footage from the building and witness statements are being collected. New York Governor Kathy Hochul has called for stricter gun control laws, and the shooting has sparked a nationwide debate on gun violence.
