Is renting furniture economically better? It is obviously a better option to rent furniture rather than buying. Furniture prices have been climbing for the past few years and now the amount is so absurd, it would discourage anyone looking to buy. There can be no short answer here. It all depends on what you need. There are plenty of options to choose from, with different prices and designs but, what exactly do you have to look for? Probably the most important thing, in my opinion, would be the tenure period. Depending on what you select, prices can differ vastly. That probably won’t affect you if you are renting a single piece of furniture but if you are choosing a whole set, the extra amount can be equivalent to your monthly rental. It also depends on how long you are going to use the furniture and if you are going to relocate to a different place after a while. Relocation can cost anywhere from 20-25% of the original price and we don’t even pay any attention to it. All these things add up with time and end up costing way more than what you originally paid. Not all black and white Furniture costs are high but that does not mean you should not buy it at all. Some pieces of furniture will cost less if bought. Things like sofa sets are very expensive so it is better to rent them, but that doesn’t mean you have to rent a bed too, they are comparatively cheaper so maybe you would be better off buying it. The important thing is to plan everything. Choose the cheapest tenure according to your needs, don’t buy or rent everything. Use both options so that you end up in a better economic position. Work from home If you are working from home, you would need proper furniture to work with efficiency. But buying everything could cost you anywhere from 15-20 thousand or even more. There is no point in buying everything, majority of people work from home 3-4 days a week and buying a table and chair for that is an economic liability. It is better to rent office chair and table, they won’t get used as much so
you will get your security deposit back without any problems and the final amount that you’ll spend will be a fraction of the buying cost. Renting might feel like a liability but, looking at the bigger picture will clear all doubts. You could even rent a mattress if that feels like the better option to you. Don’t let old notions cloud your judgment
