  1. 5 Ways to Make the Most of Your Time in Addiction Treatment Addiction treatment is often the first step in the recovery process. It gives you the time and the space you need to really build a strong foundation of sobriety. Without it, many individuals struggle to stay sober. If you can attend treatment and get that time to work on yourself, it is important that you make the most it. The time in treatment may be the only time you get to stop and really focus on the ways to get better. Missing the opportunities provided to you via drug rehab may be detrimental to your long-term recovery. So here are 5 ways to make the most of your time in treatment. Take the Suggestions (even when you don't like them):- Drug treatment is going to offer you suggestions on how best to handle yourself, your life and your sobriety. Some of the suggestions will sound great and some of them won't. Some of them will be extremely difficult. The idea though, is that you have not been able to manage your life thus far, so you are getting the help you need to learn how. So regardless of whether you like the suggestions, listen to them and take them. Nothing in treatment is designed to make your life worse. Everyone working at the facility has your best interest at heart and they are all professionals who have tons of experience in dealing with addiction. Often, if they are offering you suggestions, they are doing so because they can see the benefits it offers you, even if you can't. And as alcoholics and addicts we struggle with seeing the big picture. We can't see how some decisions are going to impact us later down the road. That is why we trust where we are and listen to the people who have more experience dealing with our disease. 2. Stay Open-minded:- An open-mind is really the key to ensuring you get everything you can out of drug and alcohol treatment open-mind will keep you open to all the things you have to gain from treatment. It will also open you up to possibilities you never imagined for yourself. It also will really help you with taking the suggestions which we mentioned at the beginning of this post. Stay Transparent:- If you like your way through treatment, you aren't really trying, and you really aren't going to gain anything at all from going. If you are going to go to treatment you might as well make the most if it. If you aren't transparent you aren't helping yourself and no one else can truly help you either. All the work you are doing has to be based on what is honestly going on with you. If you aren't transparent about that, there isn't going to be much of a reward for your hard work. The reason being that all your hard work is based on half-truths and total dishonesty. Participate:- This goes along with the first three. They all work in accordance with each other. To reap the benefits of treatment, you must participate in your treatment. Which is important to remember? Treatment isn't for the staff; this treatment is for you. This is YOUR treatment. You are going to get out of it what you put in. And if you don't put anything in at all, then what you get out of it, probably won't be anything at all. 3. your treatment the way you want to treat yourself. The more you participate the better you treat yourself. Stay Present:- Try not to think about tomorrow. Try not to think about what you are going to do when you get out of treatment, or all those future scenarios that haven't happened yet. Even the best laid plans can change. Also, don't beat yourself up by focusing on the past. Ending up in treatment, we know probably wasn't an easy road to get there, but don't be too hard on yourself about it. We all make mistakes. We are all in this together. Don't stay stuck in your past and don't waste your time daydreaming about the future. Focus on the here and now. Every day in treatment, simply try to stay focused on what you are doing today. What are you doing each day, right now, to help yourself recover? This is the secret to recovery. We can all very simply, do the right things today. Let yourself be present. Do what you can right now and leave the rest. Anyways, treatment isn't an easy road. It takes courage, honesty, an open mind, willingness, and a desire to stop using and drinking. But with these simple tools that are already within you, you can recover. We do recover.
