  1. Why you should take up reading with your kids? If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales - Albert Einstein The importance of reading or being read to from an early childhood is undeniable. It develops imagination and provides great understanding at an early age. Reading out loud to young children is hugely beneficial. It is said that children learn best with warm engaging interactions with those closest to them. As far as long-term effects are concerned, it certainly follows them to school leading to readiness, language development, problem-solving, thinking skills, and vocabulary among other things. Reading is also set to help the child develop empathy because they are putting themselves into the characters they are reading about, decrease disruptive behavior in school, and increase attention span. Even at home, reading helps bring families together as it is a time to bond and connect. There is no time too soon to start reading. It is often encouraged by expecting mothers to start reading to their unborn child as the baby hears them in the womb and certainly after birth it becomes more exciting. Having said that, the books that you read to your kids certainly depend on the age, interest, and maturity of the child. For example, for 0-6 month-old babies, books with very limited words and pictures having different textures so that they can touch and feel are recommended As they get older, small story books, pop-up books and books on topics that interest them are essential. Reading to your children every night is essential as with time it becomes a routine and they look forward to that time of the day.
