In terms of aesthetics, keep the lighting design simple if there are stronger elements in your dining area (i.e. odd-shaped tables or table tops with visible veins or grains). If the dining table and chairs are simple and minimalistic, then a statement piece would work amazingly well to lend an architectural feel to the dining area. Plus, choose a design that works with the overall theme of your home. Nothing looks more peculiar than having lights that do not complement the theme of the house. Always remember that lighting should always be considered carefully, as it could make or break the design of the room.
