  1. Zohran Mamdani’s Three Rings and the Stories They Tell Zohran Mamdani, recently elected as the Mayor of New York City, is not just making headlines for his historic win but also for his unique personal style. Mamdani, the first Muslim, first Indian-origin, and first African-born mayor of New York, is known for wearing three silver rings every day, each carrying a special story. Mamdani shared that he started wearing jewelry after the death of his grandfather in 2013, as a way to stay connected with him. The ring on his right index finger is an heirloom from his paternal grandfather, who bought it during a trip to Syria in 2007. “It was blessed, and I continue to wear it as a way to keep him in my life,” Mamdani told The New York Times. This ring reflects both his personal history and cultural heritage, linking him to his family and ancestry. The second silver ring on his right hand was a gift from his wife, artist Rama Duwaji, bought during a trip to Tunisia. This ring symbolizes love and partnership, representing the bond between Mamdani and his wife. On his left hand, he wears a simple wedding band, a reminder of their recent wedding at the city clerk’s office in Lower Manhattan. This ring marks the beginning of their married life together and holds personal sentimental value. Mamdani also mentioned that he used to wear another special ring, designed by his wife. However, it began to feel uncomfortable and eventually was lost down a drain before it could be resized. “We now mourn that ring,” he joked, showing his sense of humor and humility. The three rings Mamdani wears daily reflect more than just fashion—they tell stories of family, love, and personal journey. They highlight his connection to his roots, his commitment to his relationships, and his personal identity. Much like his historic election, these rings symbolize the blending of cultures, heritage, and experiences that define Zohran Mamdani as both a person and a leader. Through these rings, Mamdani carries with him the memories, blessings, and love that have shaped his journey, reminding him of who he is and where he comes from as he steps into his new role as New York City’s mayor.
