No School Bag Day • A Day in School Without the Burden
What is No School Bag Day? • Initiative launched by Govt. of Karnataka in Budget 2020-21 • Two Saturdays every month dedicated to joyful, activity-based learning • Aims to reduce academic pressure & encourage experiential learning
Objectives of the Scheme • Move beyond rote learning & exam-based education • Encourage interactive & practical learning • Make school a fun and engaging environment • Develop life skills, civic responsibility, and social awareness • Implement structured themes for activity-based learning
GRAAM’s Role in the Initiative • Entrusted by Dept. of Education, Govt. of Karnataka • Responsibilities: • Drafting a concept note for No School Bag Day • Designing a model plan & guidelines • Conducting pilot programs in select government schools • Provided a framework based on: • Awareness – Understanding key issues • Application – Hands-on activities • Analysis – Reflecting on learning
Pilot Projects in Schools • Schools Selected for Pilot: • Government High School, Udburu (Mysuru) • Government Senior Primary School, Bhuvanahalli (Hassan) • Key Themes Covered: • Public Buildings: Students assessed local infrastructure & reported conditions • Solid Waste Management: Discussions, skits & solutions for better waste management • Conducted in collaboration with Dept. of Public Education
Government Recognition & Support • Education Department Officials Attended Pilots • Dr. K.G. Jagadeesh, IAS, Commissioner, Dept. of Education, GoK • Witnessed activities at Bhuvanahalli school • Endorsed it as a valuable learning initiative • State-Level Panel: • GRAAM invited to mentor teachers & develop structured learning modules
