Facid Tablets (Generic Famotidine Tablets) Facid (Generic Famotidine Tablets) is used for the treatment of duodenal ulcer, benign gastric ulcer, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and prevention of relapses of duodenal ulceration. Facid Tablets (Generic Famotidine Tablets) Uses of Facid 20 mg and 40 mg Tablets: Facid Tablets Facid Tablets (Generic Famotidine Tablets) is used to treat stomach ulcers (gastric and duodenal), erosive esophagitis (heartburn or acid indigestion), and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD is a condition where the acid in the stomach washes back up into the esophagus. It is also used to treat certain conditions where there is too much acid in the stomach (eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, multiple endocrine neoplasia). Famotidine works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach thereby reducing the pain and allowing the ulcer to heal. GI Malignancy: Absence of GI symptoms does not preclude the presence of gastric malignancy.The prescribing doctor should evaluate before initiating therapy. In case of long-term treatment with high dosage, monitoring of blood count and liver function is recommended. In the event of overdosage, treatment should be symptomatic and supportive. Unabsorbed material should be removed from the gastrointestinal tract, the patient should be monitored, and supportive therapy should be employed. Due to low binding to plasma proteins, Famotidine is eliminated by hemodialysis. There is limited experience on the usefulness of hemodialysis as a treatment for Famotidine tablets overdosage. Reproductive studies performed in rats and rabbits at oral doses of up to 2000 and 500 mg/kg/day, respectively, have revealed no significant evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus due to Famotidine. However sporadic abortions occurring only in some rabbits at oral doses of 250 times the usual human dose or higher were observed. There are, however, no adequate or well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal reproductive studies are not always predictive of human response, this medication should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
