Like Mother's Day, Father's Day has an advanced beginning. The thought came to Mrs. John Dodd as she sat tuning in to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Her dad, William Smart, had brought up his SIX kids alone on his homestead in Washington after his better half kicked the bucket bringing forth their 6th tyke.
