  1. Hidden Performance Analyzer Tips PowerUsers Miss When I first started working with Microsoft Power Platform, I thought I had a solid grasp of how to build efficient apps. But as my apps grew complex, I noticed performance issues creeping in —and that’s when I truly discovered the power of Performance Analyzer in PowerApps. What surprised me the most wasn’t just how effective it was, but how many hidden tips were quietly waiting to be uncovered — even by advanced users like myself. After plenty of trial and error, and conversations with other devs and consultants, I realized that some of the most valuable insights from the Performance Analyzer are easy to overlook. In this blog, I’m going to walk you through a few of these hidden gems that many PowerUsers tend to miss — even after months or years of building apps.

  2. Don't Just Run It – Read Between the Numbers When you open the Performance Analyzer, you’ll typically look at things like control loading time, network calls, and delay times. But here’s where I went wrong early on: I focused only on high numbers and ignored context. What I learned later was to compare patterns rather than raw stats. For example, a small delay in a formula might seem harmless until you notice it happens 300 times on a screen load. This is where the PowerApps Performance Optimization comes in — and it's not just about reducing delay times. Sometimes, it’s about eliminating redundant logic or using collections smartly. Trust me, once you stop chasing just "big numbers" and start interpreting what causes them repeatedly, your app will feel much smoother to your users. Use the Export Feature (Most People Don’t) One of the most underused features I noticed — even among developers attending PowerApps and Power Automate Training with me — is the Export function in Performance Analyzer. Most folks click "Stop" after recording and start fixing what they see on-screen. But exporting the results as a JSON file and analyzing them offline in Excel or Power BI gives you a much deeper view. Personally, I found this helpful when dealing with larger enterprise-level apps. When your app has dozens of screens and multiple API calls, a single snapshot doesn’t cut it. Exporting and comparing sessions helped me figure out why some sessions were fast and others weren’t. It's like detective work— but with better tools. Don’t Underestimate OnStart Triggers Another sneaky culprit that often causes app slowness is the OnStart property. It’s tempting to load everything upfront, thinking it’ll make navigation faster later. But I learned that delayed or conditional loading is often more effective. Performance Analyzer can help you isolate how long your OnStart is taking, and more importantly, what parts are dragging it down. While taking a PowerApps Course, I got into the habit of breaking down my OnStart logic into smaller chunks and loading them only when needed. When I

  3. revisited one of my earlier apps, this change alone improved startup time by over 40%. The Analyzer was the key to spotting it. Recheck Variables and Data Sources Here’s something elseI didn’t expect to be such a big deal: unnecessary or poorly structured variables. For instance, using too many global variables or querying the same data source repeatedly can create a silent performance drain. The Analyzer can reveal how often a certain data source is being hit — and believe me, it’s often more than you think. This tip came during a PowerApps Training session, and it completely changed the way I use variables. Now, I prefer using collections where possible and caching data smartly. It makes a noticeable difference, especially on mobile. Canvas Apps vs Model-Driven Apps If you work with both Canvas and Model-driven apps, you’ll notice the Performance Analyzer behaves slightly differently. In my experience, Model- driven apps are often better optimized out of the box. However, Canvas apps give you more room to go wrong — and right — depending on how you build them. While going through Power Automate Online Training, I realized how Power Automate flows could also impact app performance, especially when triggered inside Canvas apps. You might not think of it, but if your flow takes time to respond or lacks error handling, it reflects directly in the Analyzer. It's all connected. Conclusion: Keep Digging Deeper The PowerApps Performance Analyzer is more than just a diagnostic tool —it’s a teacher. If you really spend time with it, analyze its feedback, and adjust your habits, you’ll build apps that feel faster and perform better. And the best part? Most of these fixes are low-effort once you understand what’s causing the issue. Recently, while conducting PowerApps Training in Hyderabad, I met developers who were amazed by how much more control they had over their app speed just by learning these hidden tricks. It’s not always about learning more tools — sometimes it’s about learning to use the ones you have better.
