1. Introductions - Symbiosis School of Biological Sciences (SSBS) was established by Symbiosis International (Deemed University) in 2011 under the Faculty of Medical Health Sciences (FoMHS) to address the need for a school devoted to imparting training in Life Science research. The school has a strong research foundation with an excellent publication profile and numerous research grants awarded by the public and private funding agencies. The focus areas of research are contemporary and well aligned with the National guidelines. Research activities are empowered by excellent laboratory infrastructure and highly experienced faculty members. Along with the master’s programs, the school also offers doctoral programs in Biotechnology and other areas of Life Science. M.Sc. Biotechnology - M.Sc. Biotechnology is our oldest programme that has undergone several refinements since its inception in 2011. It is an interdisciplinary programme offers courses in Stem Cell Biology, Bioprocess Engineering, Recombinant DNA Technology, Bioanalytical Techniques, Genomics, Bioinformatics, and Biostatistics. The programme also emphasizes understanding of fundamental principles through courses in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Virology, and Immunology. The programme provides training on theoretical components of these subjects as well as excellent hands-on experience in the well-equipped laboratory. The skill-based programme incorporates Research Project as an integral component that provides an opportunity for the students to get trained in independently drafting a hypothesis, designing a research project, and performing laboratory experiments followed by data analysis coupled with an opportunity to publish.

2. The programme also has a provision for a one-year research project as a separate “stream” within M.Sc. Biotechnology programme with the sole objective of skilling in contemporary areas to work towards a good research publication to confer an edge over similar programmes in the country. M.Sc. Biochemistry - M.Sc. Biochemistry is our brand-new programme started in 2022 considering the paucity of similar programmes in the vicinity and high demand from industries and academics. This fundamental programme offering various courses such as Enzymology, Metabolism, Metabolic and Genetic Engineering, Bioanalytical Techniques, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Structural Biology, Drug Discovery, and Biostatistics. The programme provides training on theoretical components of these subjects as well as excellent hands-on experience in the well-equipped laboratory. The programme incorporates Research Project as an integral component that provides an opportunity for the students to get trained in independently drafting a hypothesis, designing a research project, and performing laboratory experiments followed by data analysis coupled with an opportunity to publish. M.Sc. Biotechnology Dual Degree - M.Sc. (Biotechnology) Dual Degree Programme at Symbiosis School of Biological Sciences (SSBS), a constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University), offers a distinctive two-year full-time postgraduate programme designed to provide students with specialized knowledge in biological sciences from both India and leading global universities. This programme focuses on fostering research skills and preparing graduates for careers as independent researchers or entrepreneurs. Students enrolled in this program have the opportunity to pursue dual degrees with the Aston University, United Kingdom & University of Adelaide, Australia. Admissions Process - For the Academic Year 2025-27, SSBS is offering 2 years of full-time postgraduate programmes in Biotechnology and Biochemistry, at the Lavale campus of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) (SIU), in Pune, India. These programmes have been curated to offer robust theoretical and practical exposure, with particular emphasis on hands-on training experience for students.

Biotechnology : Graduate in Life Sciences/ Health Sciences/ Biotechnology/ any other Biological Sciences OR Graduate of Engineering in Biotechnology/ Graduate of Technology in Biotechnology from any recognized University/ Institution of National Importance with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade (45% or equivalent grade for Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes) For M.Sc. Biochemistry : Graduate in Science with Chemistry as one of the subjects in the third year OR Graduate in Life Sciences/ Health Sciences/ Biotechnology/ any other Biological Science from any recognized University/ Institution of National Importance with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade (45% or equivalent grade for Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribes) Step 3: Shortlisted candidates will undergo Personal Interaction. There is no written exam.
