  1. How Are ADHD and Autism Different? www.capaar4autism.com

  2. ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are two distinct neurodevelopmental disorders that can affect a person's behaviour, social interaction, and communication skills.

  3. Symptoms The primary symptoms of ADHD are inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. People with ADHD may have difficulty focusing on tasks, staying organized, and controlling their behaviour. On the other hand, the primary symptoms of ASD are difficulties in social interaction, communication, and repetitive behaviours.

  4. Onset ADHD typically develops in early childhood, while ASD may be diagnosed as early as age 2, but in some cases may not be diagnosed until later in childhood.

  5. Social Interaction People with ADHD may struggle with social skills, but this is typically related to impulsivity and inattention, while people with ASD have a fundamental difficulty with social interaction, including difficulty understanding social cues and nonverbal communication.

  6. Repetitive Behaviours Repetitive behaviours, such as hand flapping, rocking, and repeating words or phrases, are a hallmark symptom of ASD. While people with ADHD may have some repetitive behaviours, it is not a core feature of the disorder.

  7. Cognitive Abilities People with ADHD may have normal cognitive abilities, but may struggle with attention and organization, while people with ASD may have varying cognitive abilities, with some individuals having intellectual disability and others having above-average intelligence.
