  1. Ensure Extreme Protection with General Finishes Top Coats General Finishes Top Coats are the final coats for use over primers. They are formulated to provide good adherence to the undercoat, the desired appearance to the painted unit, additional protection from the weather and aid in other performance requirements. Have you added a protective finish to a furniture project only to realize it was a horrible product that ruined your finish? If you have, you know how incredibly frustrating that can be. Depending on the finish, sometimes the practical solution is to completely refinish the whole surface. But fortunately, if you apply premium General Finishes Top Coat, your superb finish will be preserved and protected for years to come. Don’t allow your furniture piece to be ruined by the normal wear and tear of everyday life. Instead, protect it by applying the absolute best clear coat for furniture. A clear top coat provides extreme protection against the potential damage caused by everyday life. Generally sprayed on top of a colored basecoat, a clear coat is a transparent coating that forms the final interface with the environment. Water based General Finishes Top Coats are a finishing favorite. Formulated to be tough and consumer-friendly, these wood finishes are continuing to earn high marks in the wood finishing world. Especially, if you have young kids, your tabletop, desk, or coffee table can be easily ruined with an accidental scratch or a drinking glass left on it for too long – not to mention spills. General Finishes Top Coat basically a clear protective finish that you brush on your painted or stained furniture piece after it has dried. It gives the piece a shield against scratches, water rings from drinking glasses, and just dirt in general. The protective coating makes cleaning furniture pieces easier because dirt can’t penetrate into the paint surface. Instead, it wipes cleanly and easily from the topcoat. High performance top coats go great over the gel stains. When using Gel Stain's like a stain - (normal application, wiping the Gel back off).....where you can wood grain showing through the finished piece - follow the wait and cure time noted on the container which is waiting at least 48-72 hours.

  2. If you are using the Gel Stain for fuller coverage, like a paint- then the waiting time between the last application of gel stain and your first application of a high performance top coat, should be longer. That wait time is dramatically increased if the Gel is “painted on.” It can sometimes take up to a week for the Gel to “off-gas” and dry when it is applied using the ‘painted on” method. Remember to gently stir product before using. The flattening agent often settles on the bottom. Do not shake since you do not want to create bubbles. When apply the top coat - do not play with it once on. Try to minimize "back brushing" since this can cause the top coat to have flashing. Ensure smooth finishing with General Finishes Top Coat.
