Algebraic calculators were first used by Sir Edmund Halley in 1683. • These calculators replaced the use of grids and columns that clerks were previously required to use, making calculations much easier. In 1801, Thomas Jefferson invented a calculator called the ‘Differential Analyzer’ to solve math problems requiring a lot of effort by hand. • One hundred years later, Monroe Van Dome released the Van Dome System of Multiplication in 1865. Shortly after that, Otto Teichmueller created what is believed to be the first spreadsheet program in 1905.
