  2. WELFARE FACILITIES The International Labour Organization (ILO) is a United Nations agency . What is the work of ILO ? The Organization aims at promoting labour conditions. ILO is established in Geneva in Switzerland during 1919.

  3. WELFARE FACILITIES • Employees’ welfare includes monitoring • working conditions. • creation of industrial harmony infrastructure for healthy atmosphere. • industrial relations, insurance against disease, accident and unemployment.

  4. WELFARE FACILITIES International Labour Organization (ILO) defined labour welfare as a term to include such facilities and amenities in a work place. To enable the employees to perform work in healthy manner to provide them with welfare facilities for their good health.

  5. WELFARE FACILITIES • Some of employee welfare Laws in India • Factories Act, 1948 • Maternity Benefit Act,1961 (with latest amendments) • Employee State Insurance Act, [ESI] 1948 • Employees' Provident Fund Scheme, 1952. • Payment of Bonus Act, 1965

  6. WELFARE FACILITIES • Limits of temperature and air movement • In any factory the wet bulb temperature of air in a workroom at a height. • of 1.5 meters (5 feet) above the floor level shall not exceed 30°C . • Air movement of at least 30 meters per minute.

WELFARE FACILITIES • Statutory welfare benefits. • Drinking Water: working places hygienic drinking water should be provided. • Facilities for sitting: suitable seating arrangements are to be provided. • First aid appliances: First aid appliances are to be provided. • Latrines and Urinals: A sufficient number of latrines and urinals are to be provided in the work place. • Canteen facilities: Cafeteria to be provided by the employer. • Spittoons: In every work place ,spittoons to be provided and to be maintained in a hygienic condition.

WELFARE FACILITIES • Lighting: sufficient lights are to be provided for employees to work safely. • Washing places: Bathrooms, wash basins with tap at work places. • Changing rooms: Adequate changing rooms . • Adequate lockers are also provided to the workers. • Rest rooms: Restrooms are provided to the workers. • Maternity & Adoption Leave – Employees can avail maternity or adoption leaves. • Medi-claim Insurance Scheme: Insurance schemes provides coverage of employees.

WELFARE FACILITIES • Cooling of water. • The number of water centres to be provided shall be one "centre" for every 150 persons employed. • Latrine Accommodation • Where women are employed, there shall be at least one latrine seat for every 20 women. • (b) Where males are employed, there shall be at least one latrine seat for every 20 males:

  10. WELFARE FACILITIES • Urinal accommodation • Urinal Shall be provided for the use of workers and shall not be less for every 50 workers. • It shall be one urinal for every 100 thereafter.

  11. WELFARE FACILITIES • Excessive weights • No man, woman or young person shall lift, carry exceeding the Maximum limit weight set out in the following schedule.

  12. WELFARE FACILITIES • Protection of eyes • Effective goggles shall be provided for the protection of persons. • Examination of eye sight of certain workers • All employees must be examined and declared fit by a qualified ophthalmologist.

  13. WELFARE FACILITIES • Washing facilities • a) A trough with taps or jet intervals of not less than • 61 centi meters, • (b) wash-basins with taps attached. • (c) taps on stand-pipes. • (d) showers controlled by taps.

WELFARE FACILITIES • Occupational Health Centres • factories employing 51 to 200 workers • shall have an occupational health centre. • A minimum of 5 persons trained in first-aid procedure amongst whom at least one shall always be available during the working period; • A fully equipped first aid box.

  19. WELFARE FACILITIES • Canteens • Work place employed more than 250 workers shall be provided a canteen. • The canteen shall be sufficiently lighted. • Dining hall • The dining hall shall accommodate 30% of the workers.

  20. WELFARE FACILITIES Rest rooms and lunch rooms The height of every room in the building shall be not less than 3.7 meters. The building shall be constructed and all the walls smooth, hard and impervious surface.

  21. WELFARE FACILITIES • Crèches • 284 Ml of milk issued for each child each day. • Mother of such a child shall be allowed. • Intervals of 15 minutes to feed the child.
