  1. Do’s And Don’ts Of Video Interviews

  2. Overview • As we become more technologically evolved, more and more job interviews or mock interviews are being conducted via Zoom, Skype, and other online technologies. • A video interview may be conducted if you are seeking a job in a distant city or state, or it may just be the preferred method of interviewing by the hiring manager. • With video interviews gaining importance in today’s day and age, it is necessary for the candidates to do the correct things before, during, and after the video interview, in order to stand out from the crowd. • Here are some very easy do's and don'ts to follow to ensure that you nail the interview.

  3. Do’s • Have a Professional Background: Make sure your surroundings aren't cluttered or distracting, and try not to make it obvious that you're on the phone from your bedroom. The last thing you want is for your background to take centre stage. • Make sure your interview setup is done properly : Do all necessary technical checks before the interview, including an audio-video test, installing any required programs and don’t forget to see if your internet connection works fine. Doing so ahead of time will allow you to troubleshoot any issues.

  4. Do’s • Interview questions: As a part of your interview practice, you should spend time rehearsing interview questions, just like you would for a traditional interview, so that you seem polished and professional. All of the common questions, such as “What is your biggest strength and weakness?” should be prepared for. and "Tell me about a time when you had to cope with disagreement as part of a team." You should also have considered why you want the specific job and how your skill set will connect to it in your answers.

  5. Do’s • Send a follow-up email after the interview: It's normal to write a thank-you note after a regular interview, and virtual interviews are no exception. Thanking the interviewer for their time and consideration with a follow-up email is vital since it allows you another opportunity to highlight your talents and why you are the best candidate for the job. It's also a terrific technique to keep your interview fresh in their minds. In case of panel interviews, individual emails should be sent to each interviewer, not just one email to the group.

  6. Don’ts • Don’t go in unprepared: Don't go into an interview without doing your homework, just like any other. Yes, you could covertly Google for answers on the spot, but that's not going to make a good first impression. Researching the firm demonstrates to the interviewer that you are interested in it and have a well-informed perspective. It also aids in creating a more meaningful connection between you and the interviewer.

  7. Don’ts • Don’t be too casual: It's easy to feel relaxed during a virtual interview because you're in your own office (rather than someone else's). However, keep in mind that this is still a job application. Avoid slouching in your chair or appearing overly relaxed, as this may create the impression that you are uninterested in the task. • Don’t dress casually: You should always, dress for the part as if you were interviewing in person. Wearing pants or a skirt with a “interview” blouse or top is required. Dressing up shows the interviewer that you are serious about the job. Also, dressing up will help you gain confidence and focus on the goal at hand i.e. acing the interview.

  8. Don’ts • Don’t forget to ask a question at the end : Always ask a question at the end of the interview to show interest in the position and organisation. “How would you characterise someone as successful in this position?” or “What is the most significant task of this position?” are fair inquiries. You can, however, ask questions about specific topics discussed in the virtual interview. Of course, never inquire about PTO, compensation, or benefits during a virtual or traditional interview.
