  2. What is Transient Global Amnesia? Primary symptom of Transient global amnesia is the inability to form new memories and recall the recent past.

  3. Symptoms Sudden beginning of memory loss Retention of personal identity despite memory loss Normal cognition (the ability to recognize and name familiar objects and follow simple directions) Absence of signs indicating damage to a particular area of the brain

  4. Causes Some commonly reported events that might trigger it include: Sudden immersion in cold or hot water Strenuous physical activity Medical procedures Mild head trauma Acute emotional distress

  5. Risk factors are: Age History of migraines

  6. Complications Transient global amnesia does not have direct complications. But even temporary memory loss could cause emotional distress.

  7. Diagnosis Physical exam Brain and imaging tests 1. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) 2. Computerized tomography (CT) 3. Electroencephalogram (EEG)
