  1. Scaling Agile

  2. What is the right time to consider scaling agile? You should consider exploring scaling if the work cannot be done by just one team in isolation. When there are multiple teams collaborating together to achieve the same goal, with distinct focus areas but there are common dependencies including skills or you have to ship the effective integrated outcome incrementally and continuously. In short, scaling should be considered once you move beyond the team level process improvement.

  3. Scaling agile could also be referred to as bringing a common mindset of embracing change at all levels of organization where all functions work together with a shared goal to succeed driven by shared virtues like client centricity, execution certainty. Today there are various available approaches like Scaling Agile @ Spotify, SAFe, LeSS, LeSS Huge, Nexus, Scrum of Scrums, Scrum at Scale, DAD to name a few. Each offers a wide variety of frameworks which offer scaling ranging from ‘couple of teams working together to build a product’ to ‘Organizational agility’. There is no one size fits all approach and the organization should explore, evaluate and then decide on suitable options to scale.

  4. Fundamentally, intent, outcomes, mindset and core principle around agile adoption remains the same for one team or for multiple teams. Continuous improvement in process and product, managing requirements that keep evolving, short feedback loops, identifying and minimizing waste and to always respond to change, adapt, deliver value continuously and bring ‘one team’ mindset at all levels is the core of any agile transformation journey.
