  1. Wool has been shorn from sheep by farmers for thousands of years. Sheep were some of the first creatures to be properly bred for use by humans and we have a very close relationship with them. Most breeds of sheep need regular shearing by a human or their coat will become too thick and they can overheat and sometimes die! It is a long and mutually beneficial relationship, ours with sheep, and we benefit hugely from what they give us. It is one of the best fibers in the world, wool. It has incredible insulating properties and is naturally fire retardant, so you do not need to have a comforter sprayed with some truly awful chemicals to feel safe. Many modern wool breeds are not itchy, you can have them next to your skin and feel great. Wool has the very useful property of absorbing moisture, up to 30% of its weight can be water in the right conditions. It absorbs and releases moisture very efficiently, meaning it never absorbs enough from the air to feel damp to the touch, but keeps enough not to dry out.

  2. This means that it is very difficult to set on fire. Fire retardant chemicals are coming under increasing scrutiny at this moment due to their link to behavioral difficulties in children, their effect on the immune system and the link to cancer. While a lot of the evidence is still being investigated, there is enough to put many people on a different track. Instead of using industrially made chemicals, you can have a fire resistant, comfortable, organic and environmentally friendly comforter made from wool. Once you’re done with it or it becomes damaged, you can dispose of it safely and it will biodegrade perfectly. The fluffiness of sheep is part of their eternal cuteness. By shearing them and taking some of that fluffiness, we benefit by stuffing our comforter bags with it and enjoying the bouncy softness of the fibers. The spring from a Wool Pillows is unique and very comfortable. As a support for the head in bed, or just getting it right under your back after a long day, they are just the ticket. Another advantage of wool is its breathability. Tiny air pockets in the fibers have a marvelous insulating ability, trapping warm air in the weave and regulating the temperature and humidity effectively. You will find that with a wool pillow or comforter, you are never too warm or cold. It is almost uncanny, but for those of us who have used one, it is hard to go back to anything else. Finally, there is no doubt that Wool Comforter have a lot to offer that can greatly improve our living standard, no matter where we live or what we do. So next time you buy a comforter, go for the woolen one. SLEEP & BEYOND https://sleepandbeyond.com
